Coverage and Members

The KQ6ZZ Box Springs Amateur Radio Repeater is a high level, 2-Meter, wide coverage amateur radio repeater located on Box Springs Mountain in Riverside, California.  With a distance of 65 miles from Los Angeles, and an elevation of over 3000 feet above sea level, the "Box" is one of the highest performing repeaters currently in operation.

Our members comprise of people from all walks of life.  From truck drivers and police officers to computer network designers and educators, we welcome everyone to the repeater.  With a varied assortment of professions, conversation topics are always interesting, and there is usually bound to be an expert on the repeater to answer questions or stir up conversation!

Repeater Status

This repeater is considered a closed repeater.  For those new to amateur radio, this means the repeater's usage is limited to members of the repeater group.  We do allow visitors as well as guests to use the repeater, on a limited basis.

Visitors and The NASCAR Net

Nascar GirlsThe majority of our members and our owner love NASCAR.  During races, you can find a fun conversation on the repeater immediately prior, during and after the races.

If you are visiting the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, consider joining us for the NASCAR net, during the race. You do not need to purchase a membership to join the net, as long as you are at the race.

The Repeater's Equipment

The Box Springs Repeater is a Motorola MSF5000 Limited Edition. This highly efficient Motorola, is a commercial grade piece of equipment that is capable of 125 watts pep.

It is presently "cruising" along at 40 watts of output power. This 40 watts is being fed through a Wacom 6 cavity duplexer that is connected to 1 5/8" hard line that gets the power up to the transmit antenna which is a Antenna Specialist 6 db gain 2 loop open fed dipole mounted on the tower at 120 feet. The receive antenna is the same type as the transmit. It also goes through the Wacom duplexer and it is sitting high on top of the tower at 140 feet.
